Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has cautioned opposition politicians against intense personal attacks ahead of the 2027 presidential election, asking how they will manage relationships if their efforts to unseat President Bola Tinubu fail.
Fayose, who has openly declared support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, spoke on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, during an interview from 15:54 on Channels Television.
The former governor was reacting to the growing political scrutiny, criticism and investigations targeted at the President by opposition figures.
He questioned the long-term implications of the current confrontational approach.
“If, at the end of the day, all your digging fails, how do you settle the differences?” Fayose asked.
He repeated the point for emphasis: “If at the end of the day all this your digging fails, the man returns to office. How do you settle the difference? Do you settle it?”
According to Fayose, elections are temporary, but political relationships extend beyond campaign seasons.
Fayose said while political disagreements are normal during an election cycle, politicians must be mindful that they will still have to coexist after voters have made their choice.
He noted that the build-up to 2027 has already become highly confrontational, with opposition parties intensifying efforts to challenge Tinubu’s record and present alternatives.
The former governor also touched on ongoing moves by opposition leaders to form alliances and work together ahead of the polls. He suggested that regardless of the outcome, stakeholders should avoid burning bridges.
