Segun Sowunmi, a senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has shared his perspective on ethnicity in Nigerian politics and recounted a personal encounter involving President Bola Tinubu.

In an interview from 43:23 on MIC ON PODCAST, Sowunmi explained that he does not allow ethnic sentiments to influence his political decisions. He narrated how, shortly after Tinubu was sworn in, he went to see him but was left waiting outside because the door was locked.

Sowunmi noted that during that time, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola walked in freely, which left Sowunmi displeased considering his own contributions to the political struggle.

He stated that the incident shaped his decision not to visit Tinubu again until 2022.

Sowunmi emphasized that his politics is not driven by ethnic loyalty and that he does not push ethnicity to the extreme.

He said,

“When Asiwaju had been sworn in, the next day or thereabout, I went to his house, he was having an interview, but I didn’t know, so the door was locked and I was waiting. After some time, Rauf Aregbesola came in; his trouser was standing. I got so angry—how can this kind of person be going in while I am still sitting outside, based on what I have contributed? I didn’t visit Tinubu until 2022. I’m not one of those people does all these ethnicity to the extreme.” Read_More…
