According to a report by The Times Of Israel on July 13, 2026, Iran has defended its commitment to diplomatic agreements, with Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei insisting that Tehran has consistently approached negotiations with caution, responsibility and a focus on protecting the interests of the Iranian people. He also warned that Iran would no longer comply with its memorandum of understanding with the United States if Washington failed to honor its own commitments to end the war.
Speaking during a press briefing in Tehran, Baghaei said Iran had always handled negotiations with sincerity and had fulfilled its obligations whenever agreements were reached.
“Once an understanding has been reached, it has acted in good faith and seriousness in fulfilling its commitments,” Baghaei told reporters in Tehran.
He rejected claims that Iran had ever been the first party to breach an agreement, stressing that the country had maintained a consistent record of honoring its commitments under negotiated deals.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has never been the first to violate its commitments.”
Baghaei argued that Iran’s response to any agreement would continue to depend on whether the other side fulfilled its own responsibilities. He maintained that Tehran would not remain bound by the memorandum of understanding if the United States failed to implement the measures it had agreed to, particularly those linked to ending the conflict.
According to the spokesman, Iran’s approach has always been based on reciprocity rather than unilateral compliance. He said previous experiences had demonstrated that Tehran adjusted its position whenever the opposing side failed to deliver on its promises.
