Former Nigerian senator and prominent human rights activist, Shehu Sani, has expressed his views on the suspension of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) Chairman, Mr. Mamman Mike Osuman (SAN). Taking to his official X handle (formerly Twitter), Sani criticized the decision, suggesting that it was unnecessary to suspend the chairman for voicing his opinion.
“The ACF Chairman should not have been suspended for airing his opinion,” Sani wrote, emphasizing that the content of the chairman’s statement was not entirely inappropriate. However, he acknowledged the potential issue with the perception of the remarks. “The only problem may be that his opinion can be interpreted as that of the organization he leads,” Sani clarified.
This development follows ongoing efforts by influential Northern leaders to mediate and resolve the controversy surrounding the chairman’s suspension. According to Daily Trust, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ACF made the decision amidst concerns about the impact of Osuman’s speech.
