Former President Goodluck Jonathan has reacted to calls urging him to contest in the next presidential election, saying leadership decisions require careful consideration and broad consultation.

In a video from 2:23 posted by Arise Television, Jonathan spoke to a gathering of young Nigerians, emphasizing the importance of civic participation and active involvement in the democratic process.

He noted that many young people often demand political change without fully engaging in elections, stressing that obtaining voter cards and participating in voting are essential responsibilities of citizens.

According to him, “Probably 50% of you don’t even have voter cards, and you’re asking me to go and contest the election. So you must be patriotic. You must participate in the electoral process. Yes, you have asked me to come and contest the next elections. The presidential race is not a computer game. But I’ve heard you, and I’ll consult widely.”

He further urged Nigerians, especially the youth, to focus on building a country that future generations can be proud of, noting that national development is achieved through long-term planning and continuity in leadership.

Jonathan added, “But the most important thing in Nigeria is that the young people will have hope in Nigeria that we plan for our grandchildren.
