Primate Elijah Ayodele, Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has argued that Muslim-Muslim presidential tickets could undermine Nigeria’s progress and democracy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a recent video from 5:41, The cleric clarified that his position was not motivated by opposition to Islam or Christianity but by concerns over religious representation and national unity.
He said political parties should consider Nigeria’s religious diversity when selecting presidential candidates and their running mates to ensure that different groups feel accommodated.
Ayodele also warned that ignoring the need for balance could deepen religious divisions and create unnecessary political tension.
He urged political leaders to prioritise peaceful coexistence and national unity when making decisions about their presidential tickets.
Clarifying his position on the issue, Ayodele stated, “I am not against any religion; I am not against Muslims, and I am not against Christians; What I am saying is that a Muslim-Muslim ticket is not good for Nigeria’s progress and democracy.”
