National Democratic Congress presidential aspirant, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians to demand accountability and competence from political leaders, insisting that public office should no longer serve as a platform for excuses or ineffective governance. Obi made the remarks during the NDC aspirants’ dinner shared on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 by TV Platinum from 3:38.

Addressing party members and supporters at the event, Obi urged citizens to become more vocal about the country’s challenges and insist on responsible leadership capable of delivering meaningful change. “If you don’t want to complain, this is the time for us to come out and complain,” he said.

The former Anambra State governor stated that individuals who are unable to effectively serve in public office should step aside rather than remain in positions they cannot manage competently. “If we cannot serve, please leave,” Obi stated.

He criticised what he described as a recurring pattern of elected officials offering explanations and justifications for failures after assuming office instead of providing solutions.

“We don’t want the elect people again to give us an excuse or remind us what they saw when they got in there,” he said. “No. What I’m seeing, I can change. And that is what I want in the office,” Obi added.

According to him, Nigerians should no longer tolerate leaders who seek sympathy or attempt to shift responsibility after taking office. “I’m not looking for it to give an excuse. We don’t want to hire people who will give us an excuse again,” he stated.

Obi further stressed that governance should be driven by performance, competence, and commitment rather than political entitlement. “The time of excuse has passed. If you cannot work, go home,” he said.

The former presidential candidate also argued that leadership positions should be occupied only by individuals with the required ability and dedication to improve the country. “It’s not a retirement home. It’s a home for people who have the competence, the capacity, the compassion, commitment that allows them to leave,” Obi stated.

He concluded by insisting that only capable and committed individuals should remain in positions of authority. “If you don’t have it, go home. That’s all we have,” he added….Read_More…
