In a recent interview from 51:44 on News Central TV, Zekeri Idris, a political activist, spoke on Nigeria’s economic challenges, rising cost of living, and the widening gap between political leadership and everyday citizens.

During the interview, Idris stated, “The average Nigerian cannot afford eggs, but these men are already eating chicken.” He used the statement to highlight what he described as the disconnect between political elites and the economic realities faced by ordinary Nigerians, particularly in light of inflation and food price increases.

He referenced prominent political figures such as Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, arguing that while they remain influential voices in national politics, the lived experiences of citizens struggling with basic affordability should remain central to political discussions.

Idris maintained that Nigeria’s current economic situation has made basic food items increasingly inaccessible for many households, with items like eggs and protein sources becoming symbols of wider economic hardship. According to him, political debates often fail to adequately reflect these realities, focusing instead on elite competition and electoral positioning.
