Public affairs analyst Jide Ojo has spoken about the political developments that followed the 2022 presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress, citing the emergence of Godswill Akpabio as Senate President after he stepped down for President Bola Tinubu during the party’s convention.
Speaking during an interview from 9:50 on Trust TV, Ojo recalled how Akpabio withdrew from the presidential race at the APC primary held at Eagle Square in Abuja and directed his supporters to back Tinubu.
According to him, events that followed Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election showed how political alliances and sacrifices within party contests can later influence appointments and positions in government.
“After Godswill Akpabio stepped down for president Tinubu at Eagles Square and said all his delegates should support president Tinubu. The moment the president won, and was inaugurated on May 29, news came that President Bola Tinubu has zeroed in on Godswill Akpabio as the number 3 citizen, as the president of the Senate,” Ojo said.
The analyst explained that such political arrangements are common within party structures, where aspirants who support eventual winners are often rewarded with strategic positions after elections.
