Federal lawmaker Honourable Afam Ogene has alleged that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) privately admitted they were under direct instructions to withhold recognition from the Labour Party for as long as Peter Obi remained a member.

Speaking from 9:06 on Symfoni TV, Ogene said, “INEC people said that they were under instructions not to release the party for as long as Mr. Peter Obi remained there.”

Hon. Ogene noted that the legal basis for the conclusion of Barrisster Abure’s tenure as Labour Party national chairman had existed since April 4, 2025, when the Supreme Court issued a landmark judgment stating that his tenure had ended.

He said he was among a delegation that included Peter Obi, Governor Otti, senators, House members, and other party stakeholders who personally delivered a certified true copy of that judgment to INEC.
