He made the remark while discussing what he called complicity within the country’s security establishment.
Adebayo said he encouraged looking closely at the financial patterns of senior military officers across several service courses, comparing those who retired decades ago to more recent retirees.
He said the difference in personal wealth between the two groups points to a deeper problem in how security resources are managed.
In his words, Adewole Adebayo said, “You can see their wives going to Dubai for birthday parties, when they die you see inheritance battle between their various wives or family members, they all mostly billionaire generals,” he said, describing the visible signs of wealth among senior officers.
He argued that this pattern raises questions about where such wealth originates, given that official military salaries do not typically support this lifestyle.
Adebayo said the continued existence of unresolved security threats benefits certain individuals financially, creating little incentive to bring lasting peace to affected regions.
He referenced findings from Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, which he said has already documented cases showing that funds meant for security operations are often diverted elsewhere.
