Lai Omotola, publisher of Politics Nigeria, has identified what he considers a major challenge in the proposed political partnership between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso under the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking from 12:01on Symfoni TV on Friday, October 30, 2026, Omotola argued that Kwankwaso may find it difficult to accept Obi as his political leader because of his own political experience and longstanding influence.

He pointed out that the former Kano State governor has served as a member of the House of Representatives, minister, senator and governor, leaving him with considerable experience in public office.

Omotola also said Kwankwaso regards his political movement as a major force, which could make it harder for him to take a subordinate position in the proposed arrangement.

Describing the former Kano governor’s political following, he said, “This is a man that has, according to him, the biggest organic movement, far bigger than that of the Obedients,”

He further argued that Kwankwaso’s political ambitions and temperament could complicate the question of leadership between the two politicians.

Explaining his concern, Omotola said, “But if you look at his temperament and you watch him closely, you will discover that it is difficult for him to call His Excellency Peter Obi his principal,”

He added that Kwankwaso appears to regard himself and Obi as political equals rather than accepting the former Anambra governor as his principal.

In his words, “He finds it very hard to open his mouth and say my principal. He sees both of them as colleagues,”

Omotola maintained that Kwankwaso’s decision to work behind Obi could be influenced by political calculations rather than a willingness to assume a subordinate role.

“In fact, he is finding it difficult, if not for the sake of politics, to be behind Obi, because he has always been a man of himself,” he added.
