According to a report by The Nation on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, popular Nollywood actor and Lagos State lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, has addressed reports suggesting a disagreement between him and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, over the Surulere constituency seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The lawmaker, who currently represents Surulere Constituency, clarified that there is no conflict between him and the former Speaker, describing the claims as unfounded.
His response comes amid ongoing political activities in Lagos State as aspirants begin to position themselves ahead of future elections and party processes.
Elliot, who is seeking a fourth term in the Lagos State House of Assembly, explained that his relationship with Gbajabiamila remains intact and is based on long-standing political alignment and mutual respect.
He stated that he considers the former Speaker as a leader within the party structure and emphasized that there has been no disagreement between them regarding his political ambition.
According to him, the speculation about a rift does not reflect the reality of their relationship, which he described as stable and supportive.
His remarks were aimed at clarifying the situation and addressing concerns raised by reports circulating within political circles.
The lawmaker also responded to claims that Gbajabiamila had endorsed another aspirant, Barakat Bakare, for the Surulere seat.
He stated that there has been no official declaration by the former Speaker supporting any alternative candidate.
He described such claims as speculative, noting that they are not based on confirmed information.
Elliot explained that in political environments, rumours and assumptions can often arise, especially during periods when multiple aspirants are preparing for elections.
He maintained that no formal position has been communicated by Gbajabiamila regarding the matter.
Elliot further disclosed that he had informed Gbajabiamila of his intention to seek another term before taking steps to consult with party leaders.
He explained that as part of his political process, he reached out to key figures within the party hierarchy, including Gbajabiamila, to notify them of his plans and seek their guidance.
According to him, this approach reflects his respect for party structure and leadership, as well as his commitment to following established political procedures.
He indicated that he received encouragement during these consultations, which he considers an important part of his decision to continue his political career.
He said, “I told him I was going to see the apex leaders and he gave me his blessings.”…Read_More…
