Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has said he has not heard former Vice President Atiku Abubakar publicly declare that he would serve only four years if elected president, while noting that Peter Obi had made a commitment to serve a single term.
Baba-Ahmed made the statement during an interview from 36:03 on Trust TV on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, while discussing the opposition summit which the NDC and ADC did not attend, the 2023 presidential election and the build-up to the 2027 general election.
Speaking on the political promises and positions of leading opposition figures ahead of the 2027 election, Baba-Ahmed said he could not recall Atiku making a similar commitment to serve only one term.
“I will be honest with you, I haven’t heard Atiku say he has only 4 years. I heard Obi say “I have signed an agreement to serve only one term.”
His comments come amid growing discussions about the 2027 presidential election and possible political alliances among opposition leaders seeking to challenge the ruling party.
Peter Obi, who was a presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has repeatedly been linked with discussions surrounding opposition cooperation and possible political realignments ahead of 2027.
