Ngozi Ishiwu-Obodo, wife of late police inspector Dr Ikechukwu Obodo, recounted the events leading to her husband’s death, describing the incident as a painful tragedy that has left her family devastated.

Speaking in an interview with The PUNCH, Ngozi identified herself as an indigene of Opi in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, while explaining that her late husband hailed from Ologo in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of the state.

Responding to a question about the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death, she said the incident occurred on Sunday, July 5. According to her, her husband had spent the weekend with the family, as he usually returned home on weekends before travelling back to his duty post on Sundays.

She explained that he left their home at about 7 p.m. after promising they would continue communicating by phone during his journey. She recalled that shortly after he departed, he reminded her to buy some items needed by their son, who was scheduled to take his graduation photographs at school the following day.

Ngozi said her husband had earlier promised to reimburse her for the purchase and, while still travelling back to his office, asked her to send her bank account details. She added that he fulfilled the promise by transferring the money to her account at about 7:55 p.m., just minutes before the tragic incident that claimed his life.

Further talking, she said, “However, around 9pm, I saw his call. I thought he was calling to tell me that he had reached his office. I picked up the call immediately, but it was another person who spoke to me.

“The person told me that the owner of the phone had an accident. I shouted and started begging them to help me and take him to a nearby hospital. The man and the people around him said I should start coming there, and that I should not come alone. I became afraid.”

Ngozi said that after receiving the distressing call, she asked where the accident had occurred and was informed that it happened along Bisala Road. She explained that she immediately contacted one of her brothers, who works at Park Lane Hospital in Uwani, because the location was close to his workplace.

According to her, she informed him that she had been told her husband was involved in an accident, and he assured her that he would head to the scene immediately. She added that she also rushed out of the house in panic, but a neighbour noticed her crying and called her back before driving her to the accident scene where her husband was confirmed dead….See More
