Human rights activist and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Aisha Yesufu, has reacted to remarks attributed to Fuji music star King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1), in which he reportedly claimed to have abandoned several women and their children.
In a post shared on her X account, Yesufu argued that the issue reflects broader systemic shortcomings rather than being solely about one individual. She maintained that stronger legal frameworks would compel parents to fulfil their responsibilities to their children.
Her reaction followed comments attributed to KWAM 1, who reportedly said:
“There are many women I have abandoned with their children. I forget my clothes and shoes in their houses, including any child they have for me. That is the souvenir I leave behind for them to remember me in life.”
Responding, Yesufu wrote: “I don’t blame him. I blame the system!”
She further argued that in countries where DNA testing can be used to establish paternity and enforce child support obligations, such statements would not be made lightly.
“Countries where a simple DNA makes it mandatory that you take care of your responsibilities, he wouldn’t be spewing this out!” she added.
Her comments have sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many users debating parental responsibility, child support and the enforcement of family laws in Nigeria. While some agreed that stronger institutions are needed to hold parents accountable, others argued that individuals should take responsibility for their actions regardless of the legal system.
