Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, has vowed to punish people who forge academic certificates or engage in electoral malpractice if he becomes president.

According to a report by LEADERSHIP on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Obi said his administration would enforce strict educational requirements for anyone seeking elective office, insisting that candidates must have attended both primary and secondary school.

He warned that anyone who failed to meet the requirements or attempted to use forged academic certificates would face legal consequences.

Obi also warned officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and others involved in conducting elections against manipulating results, saying those found guilty would be jailed under his administration.

Emphasising his position on educational qualifications for political candidates, Obi said, “For you to contest election, you must have attended a primary school, you must have attended a secondary school and it will be visible, it will be clear. If you didn’t attend any of them or forge your certificate, you go to jail.”
