According to a report by Punch on Friday, July 17, 2026, businessman and social commentator Isaac Fayose has expressed disappointment over what he described as the lack of appreciation from the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, despite the support he said he gave to Obi’s campaign during the last general election.
Fayose stated that he made personal sacrifices to promote Obi’s presidential ambition but had not received any form of acknowledgement from the former governor of Anambra State.
He made the remarks while reacting to criticism that followed his recent meeting with Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.
Fayose spoke in a video released on Friday, where he addressed comments from individuals who questioned his interaction with the President’s son.
He explained that his meeting with Seyi Tinubu should not be interpreted as a betrayal of his previous political position, insisting that he had openly supported Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election.
According to him, his political activities during that period were motivated by his personal convictions, and he devoted time and effort to promoting Obi’s candidacy without being compelled to do so.
He stated that throughout the electioneering period, he identified with the Obidient movement and contributed to the campaign in his own capacity.
Fayose maintained that his support came at a personal cost and was offered voluntarily because he believed in Obi’s presidential ambition.
However, he expressed regret that, despite those efforts, he had never received any direct appreciation or acknowledgement from the Labour Party candidate after the election.
The businessman further lamented that Obi had not reached out to him at any point to express gratitude for the role he claimed to have played during the campaign.
According to him, simple recognition or appreciation would have been enough to acknowledge the contributions of those who stood behind the Labour Party candidate throughout the election period.
He suggested that such gestures are important in maintaining relationships with supporters who dedicated their resources and time to a political cause.
Fayose also contrasted his experience with his recent encounter with Seyi Tinubu, saying the President’s son treated him with courtesy and appreciation during their meeting.
He explained that the interaction prompted him to reflect on the absence of similar recognition from Obi, despite the support he had rendered during the presidential campaign.
Fayose questioned why he was being criticised for meeting Seyi Tinubu, maintaining that his actions should be viewed in the context of his personal experiences rather than political assumptions.
He said, “Seyi is a good boy. He removed his cap and appreciated me. Has Obi come to greet me since I started campaigning? Has Obi come to say thank you? Did you people send me the work?….See More
