Vanguard reports that Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the vice-presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), has asserted that Islam is suffering from a damaged reputation due to the leadership of the Tinubu/Shettima administration.
Baba-Ahmed made this assertion at a political event hosted by the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Abuja on Monday, where he discussed what he sees as the diminishing global perception of Islam in connection with the current Nigerian government.
He emphasized that his comments were challenging to express but necessary, indicating his awareness of the sensitivity and potential repercussions of his stance.
He began by voicing his reluctance to share his thoughts, stating, “Listen carefully. It’s not easy for me to say this. And I hope one day I will not regret it for saying this, but it’s not easy, but it must be said.”
The vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party elaborated on his perspective regarding the global perception of Islam, connecting it to issues of governance and leadership.
He noted that societies led by Muslims are generally expected to embody peace, justice, and stability, but he contended that this expectation is not being fulfilled in Nigeria under the Tinubu-Shettima administration.
He remarked, “The reputation of the Islamic world has never been as negatively impacted as it has been during the Tinubu-Shettima presidency.”
Baba-Ahmed also compared this situation to what he sees as the norm in other regions where Muslims are in leadership roles, asserting that such societies are usually linked to positive governance results.
He added, “All over the world, where Muslims have ruled or are ruling, there is peace and tranquillity, and there is justice.”…Read_More…
