According to a report by The Cable on Saturday, May 2, 2026, former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi has urged Nigerians to make informed choices when evaluating political leaders, emphasizing the importance of performance and track records in governance.

Amaechi, who previously served as Minister of Transportation, made the remarks while comparing his tenure as governor with that of Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State. He encouraged citizens to assess both leaders based on their achievements while in office, rather than relying on sentiments or political affiliations.

“Compare me to Peter Obi — we were governors at the same time. If he’s a better governor, please choose him. Although the former vice-president was not a governor, he was once a vice-president.”
