President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has spoken about the security situation in Nigeria. He said the country has recorded improvements in security under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
According to a report shared by VANGUARD on Friday, May 29, 2026, Akpabio stated that insurgent groups such as Boko Haram no longer control territories or hoist their flags in any part of the country.
He explained that although security threats still exist, insurgents now mainly target soft locations such as schools, churches and mosques, where security presence is usually limited.
Akpabio said the current situation is different from the past when insurgent groups occupied territories in some parts of the country. He added that the government and security agencies are continuing efforts to tackle insecurity and protect lives and property.
He noted that attacks on civilians remain a concern, especially in vulnerable communities, but maintained that Nigeria’s security situation has improved compared to previous years.
