Presidential spokesperson Daniel Bwala has taken a swipe at Arise News Morning Show co-anchor Rufai Oseni shortly after appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today to discuss the state of the nation.
Bwala, who featured on the programme hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, addressed issues relating to the Tinubu administration’s performance, including security, governance and other national matters.
Less than an hour after the interview, the Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication reacted to a social media comment made by Rufai Oseni, accusing the broadcaster of using online criticism to attract engagement and generate revenue.
In a post on his X account, Bwala alleged that the journalist had made a habit of promoting content aimed at provoking reactions from supporters of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
“It is very easy to detect the fake news media OAP with champertous motives,” Bwala wrote.
He claimed that Rufai commented on his interview shortly after it aired and described him as “a major spokesman for Peter Obi.”
According to Bwala, the broadcaster’s online activities were driven by “hate, vitriol and fake news” designed to increase followers, traffic and viewership.
“Barely one hour after my interview with @seunokin, a major spokesman for Peter Obi, @ruffydfire, whose fortune today relies on hate, vitriol and fake news peddled through his media outlets generating revenue from the ignorance and gullibility of a set of people, has engaged on his X handle to troll and generate revenue. That is his MO,” he stated.
The presidential aide further alleged that exploiting the emotions of political supporters for online engagement amounted to making “blood money.”
