Morounfolu John, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, has stated that some members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) often carry charms they believe can protect them from bullets and also perform incantations before going on operations.
In an interview from 45:06 with Morayo Afolabi-Brown, ACP John said he used to tell his colleagues to either maintain a strong relationship with God or acquire traditional spiritual protection
ACP John said he does not rely on charms because he is a Christian. He said God has saved him from many dangerous situations he faced in the course of his duties.
In ACP John’s words: “I used to tell my colleagues and friends that, ‘If you don’t know the Babalawo and you don’t have God, you are on your own’. Because how do you explain bullets flying and it is just flying beside you”.
