Ikenga Ugochinyere, a member of the PDP and member of the House of Representatives, has spoken about the 27 House of Assembly members led by Martin Amaewhule in Rivers State. These lawmakers had announced their defection from the PDP to the APC. However, shortly after, they backtracked and claimed they were still PDP members.

In a live coverage by Symfoni TV from 1:43, Ugochinyere said former Governor Nyesom Wike hosted a dinner for the 27 lawmakers and mentioned that they did not inform him before leaving the PDP. He said the lawmakers publicly took oaths that they defected from PDP to APC and their defection was shown live on TV. He also highlighted the rallies held by the APC to welcome them.

Ugochinyere said immediately they announced their defection, they effectively gave up their seats as lawmakers.

In Ugochinyere’s words: “Wike hosted dinner for you people (27 lawmakers) where he told the whole world that you people did not even tell him before you decamped. Then suddenly you are running from one court to another so that you can be declared a lawmaker when you are no longer a lawmaker”.
