Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, has reacted to the decision of Siminalayi Fubara to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries in Rivers State, saying the former governor has finally made his political position clear.

Odinkalu made the remarks in a post shared on his social media handle on Thursday, where he expressed satisfaction with Fubara’s reported decision to step away from the race.

According to him, Fubara’s withdrawal brings clarity to issues surrounding his political future and suggests that active politics may not be the right path for him.

“I am glad @SimFubaraKSC has finally brought clarity to issues and decided that politics is not for him. It never was,” Odinkalu wrote.

The human rights activist also revisited events leading up to the 2023 political transition in Rivers State, noting that Fubara was still serving as a civil servant in 2022 and allegedly remained in service beyond the period when aspirants seeking elective positions were expected to resign under provisions of the Electoral Act.

Odinkalu argued that with his reported exit from the governorship contest, Fubara now has the opportunity to return to public service, which he described as a field where the former governor could have a brighter future.

“He is now free to return to the civil service where his future should be bright,” he added.
