According to an interview with the Sun on Sunday, June 14, 2026, Sly Ezeokenwa, a legal practitioner and National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has made clear that his party does not consider Peter Obi a member, and pushed back strongly against any suggestion that APGA would rally behind the Labour Party presidential candidate simply because of shared Anambra State roots.

Ezeokenwa was responding to a question about whether APGA would be caught in a difficult position — torn between backing a fellow Anambra indigene in Obi and maintaining alignment with President Bola Tinubu. Rather than hedge, the chairman was blunt.

“You talked about our son, I don’t want to discuss that son,” he said. “That son is not a member of APGA, and in one particular interview I granted some time ago, which went viral, I said that that son left APGA when the party needed him most.”

Ezeokenwa went further, accusing Obi of actively working against the party that launched his political career. He argued that Obi has made repeated efforts to weaken APGA’s grip on Anambra State, particularly during governorship contests.

“He has consistently taken every step to annihilate the party that made him. I still stand by that,” the chairman stated. “At every governorship election, that son goes to bring another candidate to take out APGA from Anambra State.”

Ezeokenwa stopped short of a direct condemnation but left little room for interpretation, concluding: “That may not necessarily be termed a good son as far as the interest of APGA is concerned.”
