Christian Joe has recounted the terrifying moment he attempted to escape from his kidnappers, only to be pursued, captured, and subjected to a brutal beating that left him with life-threatening injuries.
According to an interview from 31:12 aired on Arise News, Christian shared details of his ordeal while reflecting on his time in captivity and the desperate measures he took in an effort to regain his freedom.
He explained that on the third day of his captivity, an opportunity appeared to present itself when some of the kidnappers left their camp to attend to another victim whose family had successfully arranged a ransom payment. With fewer captors remaining behind, Christian decided to take a chance.
He said he gathered his courage and concluded that he would rather risk everything trying to escape than continue living at the mercy of his abductors.
Christian said: “I tried to escape when they weren’t around, but they ran after me and caught me.”
According to him, the kidnappers quickly pursued and apprehended him before he could get far. What followed was a severe punishment that left him badly injured.
He revealed that he suffered serious injuries to his hands, legs, and left palm during the assault. He also sustained a devastating knee injury that left him unable to stand or walk properly.
After the beating, Christian said the kidnappers abandoned him in the forest. Unable to move on his feet because of the injuries, he spent hours crawling along a track road in search of help.
His ordeal eventually came to an end when passersby spotted him and transported him to a hospital, where he received emergency medical treatment.
