According to a report by Daily Post published on Monday, June 29, 2026, the presidential running mate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has alleged that some politicians interfere with elections by snatching result sheets at polling units, warning that the practice threatens both electoral integrity and the safety of election officials.
Amaechi said officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), particularly ad-hoc personnel assigned to manage election materials, are often exposed to danger when politicians or their supporters attempt to seize result sheets after voting has been concluded. He argued that such actions undermine the credibility of the electoral process and create an unsafe environment for those carrying out election duties.
The former Minister of Transportation emphasized that polling units are the foundation of the entire election process because they are the locations where votes are cast and counted. According to him, any attempt to tamper with result sheets at that stage amounts to a direct assault on the integrity of the election and could distort the true will of the electorate.
Amaechi maintained that individuals who interfere with election materials not only compromise the voting process but also place the lives of INEC officials at risk. He said protecting electoral personnel and securing sensitive election documents should remain a top priority to ensure free, fair and credible elections.
Drawing from his political experience, Amaechi stated that he has spent decades participating in Nigeria’s political system and understands how elections are conducted at the grassroots level. He noted that his years in public life have given him firsthand knowledge of the challenges facing the electoral process and the importance of safeguarding polling units from manipulation.
His comments formed part of a broader call for greater vigilance against electoral malpractice and stronger protection for election officials during future polls.
He said, “I left university in 1987 and joined politics that same year, so you won’t teach me, unit level is where they vote.”
