Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has raised serious concerns about the conduct of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following its decision to update the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on its official website.
The governor spoke to the press after the installation of the Turaki-led caretaker committee, in remarks aired by TV Platinum on Monday, May 4, 2026.
Governor Makinde questioned the basis upon which INEC acted, noting that the certified true copy of the relevant court judgment had not yet been released. “Have you seen the certified true copy of that judgment? Nobody has seen it. It is not out. Maybe it will be out today,” Makinde said.
He expressed surprise at the electoral body’s swift action, stating that no one had access to the actual judgment document at the time of the update.
“We were even surprised, you know, at INEC that they went ahead to update the ADC, the ADC leadership on their website. Because nobody has seen the certified true copy of the judgment itself. So I do not understand how a national institution, you know, will, you know, be hasty, will go ahead and update those data without even seeing the judgment,” he added.
The Oyo State Governor described the development as concerning, warning that it sets a dangerous precedent.
“It is concerning to us because what it means is somebody can whisper a court judgment and then they will go ahead on their website and update that.
