Bishop David Oyedepo, the General Overseer of Living Faith Church Worldwide, has explained how Christians can confront wickedness, highlighting what he described as the role of divine vengeance in ending oppression and securing deliverance.

The cleric shared the teaching during a sermon published on YouTube from 1:19:50, where he spoke about the ministry of the Holy Spirit and the place of divine judgment in dealing with wickedness.

Oyedepo described the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of vengeance, saying this aspect of His ministry was not widely understood by many believers.

Explaining why Christians should actively resist what they do not want in their lives, he cited 1 John 5:19 and warned against remaining passive in the face of wickedness.

Emphasising the need for believers to confront challenges rather than simply watch them persist, Oyedepo said, “What you don’t want, you don’t watch. What you don’t resist has a right to remain. And what you don’t confront, you cannot conquer.”

He further pointed to the biblical account of the Israelites’ deliverance from Egypt, arguing that divine vengeance brought an end to Pharaoh’s oppression. Citing Exodus 12:12–13, he recalled God’s judgment against the gods of Egypt and the death of the firstborn.

According to the bishop, the judgment eventually led Pharaoh to summon Moses and Aaron and urge the Israelites to leave Egypt, illustrating how the biblical account connects divine judgment with the end of their bondage.

Summarising his teaching on how wickedness can be brought to an end, Oyedepo said, “One of the ways to bring an end to the wickedness of the wicked is by vengeance.”
