Gabriel Pidomson, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, has accused Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike of stepping up his political activities in the state because of growing opposition efforts ahead of the 2027 election.
Pidomson made the allegation in Port Harcourt during the inauguration of the ADC governorship campaign council, according to a video shared by Channels Television.
Recalling a period when Governor Siminalayi Fubara was gaining political influence, Pidomson claimed Wike began visiting local government areas across the state after becoming concerned that Fubara was taking over the political space.
He linked the minister’s recent movements around Rivers State to the work he said opposition groups had been doing to build support ahead of the next governorship election.
Explaining why he believed Wike was making the visits, Pidomson said, “You know why the FCT Minister is running around in Rivers State is because he knows that we’ve done a lot of work. Anytime you see him panic, I’ll give you an example. When he was afraid that Sim was virtually taking over the place and he entered the party, he was moving from LGA to LGA.”
Pidomson also alleged that Wike visited Bonny shortly after the ADC candidate had travelled there to take part in a radio programme. He claimed the minister subsequently met with residents during his own visit.
The ADC candidate further raised concerns about the conduct of the forthcoming election, warning against attempts to manipulate the process. He said his party would challenge its opponents through the ballot and emphasised the importance of protecting voters’ choices.
Pidomson’s claims about Wike’s motives were allegations made during the campaign council inauguration. The account provided did not include a response from the FCT minister.
