The President of the Trade Union Congress, Festus Osifo has alleged that the reason why Organised Labour went on strike the last time was because the Federal Government claimed that even a single kobo would not be added to the proposed N60,000 as minimum wage.

He however stated that the strike action has served to expedite the negotiation processes. He argued that the strike has prompted the National Assembly to declare their readiness to pass the new minimum wage legislation immediately after Salah celebration.

He said in an interview with Channels TV From 16:47, ”There is no figure that is sacrosanct, there is no figure that is cast on stone. We went on strike because they told us that a kobo cannot even join the N60,000. So that was one of the reasons that led to that industrial action. Beyond the fact that there were also delays because if not for that strike action, I’m not sure that the National Assembly would have said what they said yesterday that they are ready to pass the minimum wage immediately after Salah. We saw some conspiracy here and there but now there is a national call to duty and a national awakening and why the new minimum wage must be put in place.”…..Sée Móre
