Nigerian songwriter and social commentator, Charly Boy, has opened up about the difficult circumstances surrounding his birth, revealing that his mother later gave birth to three other boys who did not survive.
Charly Boy made the disclosure during an interview from 29:55 with News Central TV on Friday, August 7, 2026, while reflecting on his childhood, family background and some of the deeply personal experiences documented in his memoir.
Speaking about his birth and the circumstances surrounding his early family life, Charly Boy said his mother went through a particularly difficult pregnancy before giving birth to him.
According to him, his mother was pregnant with him for about 11 months and refused to undergo a Caesarean section, insisting that she wanted to give birth through the normal process.
Reflecting on what happened after his birth, Charly Boy said his mother subsequently had three other boys, none of whom survived.
He described the experience in an emotional and unusual manner, saying, “My mother had three other boys after me, but I think that I killed all of them.”
However, Charly Boy was not suggesting that he literally caused the deaths of the three children. Rather, he was recounting the fact that the three boys born after him did not survive while reflecting on the extraordinary circumstances surrounding his own birth.
His account centred largely on his mother and the ordeal she experienced during the pregnancy that preceded his birth. He explained that she carried the pregnancy for approximately 11 months and remained determined to deliver him naturally despite the circumstances.
The revelation formed part of a broader discussion in which Charly Boy reflected on his life journey, his upbringing and some of the experiences that have shaped his personality and worldview.
The veteran entertainer said many of the personal stories that are not widely known about him are contained in his memoir, 999, which chronicles different stages of his life and the experiences that influenced his development.
For Charly Boy, the memoir represents an opportunity to tell his story from his own perspective, going beyond his public identity as a musician, entertainer, activist and social commentator.
