Public affairs analyst Katch Onanuju has criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over its decision to freeze the accounts of the Osun State Government, arguing that the anti-graft agency has not applied the same standard in other high-profile cases involving former public officials.
Speaking during an interview from 7:07 on TVC News on Friday, August 7, 2026, Onanuju questioned the rationale behind the EFCC’s action against the Osun State Government, saying the commission had failed to take similar measures in relation to allegations previously made against former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
According to him, “All that EFCC said about Yahaya Bello, they have not frozen the accounts of Kogi State Government nor done anything to bring Yahaya Bello to court.”
Onanuju argued that the commission’s actions raise concerns about consistency in the enforcement of anti-corruption laws, insisting that Nigerians expect equal treatment in the handling of corruption allegations regardless of the individuals or governments involved.
He maintained that selective enforcement weakens public confidence in institutions responsible for fighting corruption and undermines the credibility of ongoing investigations. According to the analyst, anti-graft agencies must ensure that their decisions are guided strictly by the law and not by political considerations or perceptions of bias.
