Saheed Opeyemi, a suspect arrested in connection with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) violence in Osun State, has admitted that he carried a firearm during the clash but insisted that he never fired it.
Speaking during an interview from 1:29 on AIT News on Thursday, 23 July, 2026, Opeyemi denied participating in the shooting that reportedly left three policemen injured. He said he had no intention of using the gun and returned it to the person who had given it to him as soon as security operatives arrived, insisting that he did not fire any shot throughout the incident.
According to him, “I also carried gun but I didn’t shoot it. Immediately I saw police, I handed over the gun to the guy that gave me the gun.”
The suspect’s statement comes as security agencies continue investigating the violent clash involving members of the NURTW in Osun State.
