In a recent interview from 16:16 on TVC News, on Monday, June 6, 2026, Sani Shinkafi, an APC chieftain and Executive Director of Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development, dismissed claims by former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi that he could deliver unprecedented development in northern Nigeria. Shinkafi argued that the region’s political realities require experience and a deep understanding of its unique challenges.

He said his views were based on his longstanding political relationship with Obi, dating back to their time in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). According to Shinkafi, his firsthand knowledge of Obi’s political career gives him confidence in assessing the former Anambra State governor’s leadership capacity.

Speaking during the interview, Shinkafi stated, “He cannot do anything better than anyone else in Northern Nigeria.” He made the remark while responding to Obi’s claim that he would deliver more for northern Nigeria than any previous president.

The APC chieftain also argued that elections are determined by grassroots mobilization and sustained engagement with voters rather than rhetoric. He expressed confidence that the ruling party would continue to enjoy widespread support in the North because of what he described as its record in office.
