Former U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a strong statement on his verified Twitter account, warning the BRICS nations against creating or supporting any currency to challenge the dominance of the U.S. dollar in global trade.

Trump’s remarks come amidst growing discussions among BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—about establishing a new currency to facilitate trade among member countries. Critics have speculated that such a move could potentially undermine the U.S. dollar’s role as the global reserve currency.

“The idea that the BRICS Countries are trying to move away from the Dollar while we stand by and watch is OVER,” Trump declared. He called for a firm U.S. response, demanding that the BRICS nations commit to refraining from creating a new BRICS currency or backing any other currency to replace the dollar. “They will face 100% Tariffs and should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful U.S. Economy,” Trump added, indicating that economic retaliation would be on the table.

Trump described the U.S. dollar as “mighty” and emphasized there is “no chance” for its replacement in international trade. He also warned that any country attempting to undermine the dollar’s position would face consequences, saying, “They can go find another ‘sucker!’”

The former president’s statement reflects concerns among American policymakers and economists about the potential geopolitical and economic implications of a BRICS-led alternative currency. While no official BRICS currency has been launched, discussions within the bloc signal an intent to reduce reliance on the dollar, which could reshape global trade dynamics.
