The Bayelsa State Police Command has launched a midnight operation in Yenagoa to rescue a businesswoman Sarah Chinedu and have apprehended one suspect in the process.

The arrested suspect, identified as Peredobei Denmark, denied being one of the kidnappers, claiming his role was limited to watching over the victim in the absence of the main gang.

Speaking from 3:22 on Arise TV, he said, “My kinsman named Small Voice, but known as Ominayigba, was the one behind the operation. I was not among the kidnappers. My role was to watch over the woman till they arrived, because they had gone for a burial ceremony, and I was hoping only to leave when the other boys arrived,” he said.

He also revealed that he had been given two phones, a handset and a smartphone, with strict instructions on how to handle communications with the victim’s family.

He said he was specifically commanded to speak only with the designated representative of the victim’s family during ransom negotiations.
