According to the report from the Vanguard, a compelling voice on issues affecting the Niger-Delta region and Nigeria, Ms. Ann-Kio Briggs acknowledged the organization’s involvement in addressing the political crisis in Rivers State, which involves all six states in the Niger Delta region.

She noted that while PANDEF’s decision on the matter is binding, there are dissenting voices within the organization.

Referencing a statement made by the FCT Minister, who vowed never to forgive Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Briggs expressed uncertainty about the governor’s alleged actions that led to this strong sentiment.

She stated that if PANDEF believes it can succeed in navigating the complex situation in Rivers State, she hopes they can achieve their goals. However, given the challenging nature of the issue, she wouldn’t be surprised if their efforts fall short.

Briggs’ statement underscores the complexity of the political crisis in Rivers State and the difficulties faced by those attempting to find a resolution.

According to Ann-Kio Briggs, “Don’t forget that PANDEF is an organization that involves the six states of the Niger-Delta. The decision by PANDEF is binding as much as it is what the body wants to do. There are voices that do not agree with that decision. I am a member of PANDEF. So, if it wants to try to see if it could achieve what it wants, that is fine.

The FCT minister (Wike) had said over his dead body, he would never forgive Siminalayi Fubara. I don’t know what the governor has done that he will never forgive him. If PANDEF believes that it can succeed and is going into where Angels fear to tread, if they succeed, fine, if they fail, I won’t be surprised. This is Rivers State’s problem.”
