According to a report by Premium Times on Monday, June 1, 2026, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has explained the reasons behind his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following the party’s recently concluded primary election.

Speaking on the political developments that informed his decision, Lawal said his position was influenced by his assessment of the opposition’s chances ahead of the next general election and his concerns about the strategic direction of political alliances.

“For me, working for Kachalla Atiku means giving Tinubu an automatic ticket to a second term, which gives me nightmares.”

The former SGF noted that his remarks were based on his personal political calculations and convictions, stressing that he believed alternative approaches would be more effective in building a competitive platform for future elections.
