According to a report by The Times of Israel on Sunday, June 7, 2026, IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin said that Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir is currently conducting an operational assessment following Iran’s ballistic missile attack on Israel and is “approving plans for the future.”
Defrin stated during a press conference that the Israeli military leadership is reviewing the situation in real time in the aftermath of the missile fire, which targeted Israel earlier in the night.
He noted that the assessment being carried out by the chief of staff is focused on ongoing operational readiness and future planning in response to the escalation.
“The Iranian terror regime made a grave mistake,” Defrin said, addressing the latest wave of missile launches attributed to Iran.
He further emphasized that the Israel Defense Forces remains prepared for additional missile fire from Iran, indicating that military systems are on high alert following the attack. According to Defrin, defensive and operational frameworks remain in place as the situation continues to develop.
The statement comes as Israeli air defense systems were engaged in intercepting incoming ballistic missiles launched from Iran toward Israel during the night.
Earlier military updates indicated that sirens were activated in multiple regions as successive waves of missiles were detected, prompting civilians to follow Home Front Command instructions and take shelter.
Defrin’s remarks were delivered amid ongoing military evaluations at senior levels of the IDF command structure, with the chief of staff overseeing the broader response strategy.
The IDF spokesperson did not provide additional operational details but underscored that preparations are underway for potential further escalation.
The military has been managing multiple interception operations as missile launches continued in waves, with air defense systems activated across northern and central parts of the country. According to the IDF, the response framework remains active as assessments continue.
Defrin reiterated that the IDF is maintaining readiness for further developments, with attention focused on both defensive interception capabilities and future operational planning directed by the military leadership.
The press briefing followed a series of alerts issued across Israel during the missile attack, with air defense units engaged in real time response to the incoming projectiles. Military authorities have continued to monitor the situation closely as part of ongoing security evaluations coordinated at the highest levels of command.
