According to a video from 03:29 posted on Channels TV News, on Monday July 6, 2026, former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff condemned all forms of armed violence and killings across Nigeria, stating clearly that he will never support any group that takes up arms against the country.
His comment came after he was pressed on whether he condemns those responsible for killings and abductions in the north.
The interviewer had earlier accused Sheriff of criticizing Peter Obi for not condemning IPOB, while asking whether Sheriff was equally willing to speak out against those causing insecurity in northern Nigeria.
Sheriff responded firmly, saying he condemns all such actors without exception.
He was further asked about repentant fighters and whether the conversation should shift toward forgiveness, a subject he acknowledged but said does not change his position on armed violence.
In his words, Ali Modu Sheriff said, “I never accept for any section of the country to carry arms and kill people.
“I will never be part of it and I will never associate myself with such people,” he said, stressing that his condemnation applies equally to all groups, regardless of region.
When asked directly whether he condemns both sides of the conflict, Sheriff confirmed that he does, without hesitation.
He also addressed a suggestion that Nigeria should respond to armed groups with heavy military action, saying he does not support that approach and has reservations about it.
He cautioned that public commentators, including journalists, should be careful with how such sensitive matters are discussed.
Sheriff’s remarks reflect a broader effort by northern political figures to present a unified stance against insecurity while avoiding accusations of regional bias in how violence is addressed nationally….See More
