According to a video from 02:09 posted on TV Platinum, on Tuesday July 7, 2026, Senator Ningi gave the Senate a graphic account of how a Nigerian was attacked in his own home during the recent xenophobic violence in South Africa, describing how the man was chased down, killed, and burned without any warning.
Ningi made the remarks while pressing colleagues to see that the crisis facing Nigerians abroad goes far beyond words.
He said such attacks are carried out physically, not through statements, and therefore require a response that matches the seriousness of the violence.
In his words, Senator Ningi said, “This attack is not done by mouth is done physically. You imagine Mr. President, somebody in his own house, somebody in his own place of business, without no notice, and the mobs begin to chase that man, kill him, burn him.”
He told the Senate that this was not an isolated case, noting that more than 1,200 Nigerians were already being evacuated as the violence spread.
Ningi said the government’s continued use of the word caution does not match the scale of what Nigerians are experiencing on the ground.
He reminded lawmakers that the chamber represents Nigerians both at home and abroad, and that this responsibility means the Senate cannot treat such killings as routine news.
Ningi said Nigeria’s foreign policy, long centered on African solidarity, must now be reconsidered given how citizens are being treated.
He called for a downgrade in diplomatic relations with South Africa as a way of showing that Nigeria takes the safety of its citizens seriously, insisting that talk and lament alone would not stop further attacks or protect Nigerian lives abroad….See More
