ADC chieftain, Honorable Idris Kalgo, has declared that the party doesn’t want to go into the 2027 presidential election with Professor Joash Amupitan as chairman of INEC, alleging that he’s a member of the APC.
In a Trust TV interview from 15:33, Kalgo addressed ongoing protests by the ADC youth wing across several state capitals demanding Amupitan’s resignation.
When asked how Nigerians can see the calls as being about electoral integrity rather than self-interest, Kalgo cited Amupitan’s refusal to register new parties and what he described as deliberate obstacles placed in the way of other parties.
He referenced disputes over party logos, arguing that such actions show bias. According to Kalgo, the ADC does not trust Amupitan and does not want him to remain as INEC chairman. He said the party wants a patriotic Nigerian in the role, not someone they view as aligned with the APC.
Kalgo stated that the ADC doubts everything Amupitan, alleging that he works for President Tinubu and fights for the APC.
When asked what will happen if efforts to remove Amupitan fail, Kalgo said the people must do the needful, insisting that Nigerians have the right to vote and protect their votes at all costs. He emphasized that Nigerians must cast their votes, protect them, and ensure they are counted.
Kalgo also questioned Amupitan’s quick removal of the names of Rauf Aregbesola and David Mark from the INEC portal, asking why the chairman was in a hurry when the matter was still under appeal. He argued that waiting for a final judgment would have been appropriate and said the ADC does not believe their votes are protected under Amupitan’s leadership.
In his words, “All these things are evident. It’s as if he’s working for the president. It’s like he’s fighting for APC. We don’t trust him, and we don’t want him to be an elected chairman anymore.”
“We need somebody who’s going to be a true Nigerian, a patriotic, not somebody like Joash Amupitan. We don’t trust him. We don’t believe in him. We doubt everything he does, and we don’t want to go to the general election with him. He’s an APC member. We don’t want him there.”…Read_More…
