According to a report by Vanguard on Thursday, May 14, 2026, former Rivers State governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on Thursday stated that the ‘Emilokan’ political philosophy that influenced the outcome of the last presidential election had contributed significantly to the difficulties currently facing Nigerians.
He argued that the approach had played a role in worsening the situation in the country and had left citizens struggling with economic hardship.
He maintained that Nigeria had reached a point where decisions on leadership should no longer be influenced by ethnic identity, religious affiliations or ideas surrounding whose turn it was to occupy political office.
According to him, such factors should not determine the direction of the country’s leadership.
The comments represented one of Amaechi’s most direct criticisms of the ruling All Progressives Congress and the current administration as political activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election continue to gain momentum.
His statements reflected growing political discussions over the performance of the present government and the expectations ahead of the next election cycle.
Amaechi made the remarks in Abuja shortly after submitting his presidential nomination form.
During the event, he projected himself as one of the most qualified individuals seeking the office and stressed that his experience in public service placed him in a strong position among those contesting.
He also questioned the efforts of the APC to secure another term in office and urged citizens to assess political candidates based on measurable achievements and their ability to perform.
He attributed the nation’s present economic challenges to the policies and performance of the current administration, expressing concerns about the direction of governance.
He questioned the basis on which the ruling party intended to seek a renewed mandate from Nigerians despite the economic pressures and challenges being experienced across the country.
Amaechi further stated that the 2027 presidential election should serve as an opportunity for Nigerians to carefully assess the records and achievements of those seeking public office.
He maintained that elections should be used as a platform for accountability, where candidates are judged by their past performance and ability to deliver results rather than political sentiments.
He said, “I believe I am the most experienced. I am young, I am the most experienced, and I believe I have the capacity.
“Go back to Rivers State and see what I have done. Go back to Ministry of Transportation and see what I have done, and assess it and see whether I can turn the country around. And I will, in four years, turn the country around.”….Read_More…
