According to a video from 10:41 posted on the official YouTube channel of Arise News on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, ADC Zonal Secretary for the Southeast, Kalu Agu, expressed concern over what he described as the failure of some lower courts to adhere to established legal principles already settled by the Supreme Court.

Speaking during an interview from 10:41, Agu argued that the doctrine of judicial precedent should be respected by every court operating below the nation’s apex court. He maintained that once the Supreme Court has made a final pronouncement on a legal issue, lower courts are expected to apply that decision in similar cases instead of reaching conflicting conclusions.

He said, “My worry today is that when the Supreme Court settles an issue, that issue is binding on all courts below the Supreme Court.”

According to Agu, the principle promotes consistency in the administration of justice and strengthens public confidence in the judiciary. He noted that departing from settled decisions of the Supreme Court could create uncertainty in the legal system and encourage unnecessary litigation.
