Ikulono Simeon, Youth Leader of Otukpo Local Government Area in Benue State, has disclosed that at least eight people were killed when suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked his community in the early hours of the morning. He said residents were unable to defend themselves as the attackers stormed the area.

Speaking during an interview from 1:21 on AIT News, on Wednesday, 15 July, 2026, while recounting the incident, Simeon described the attack as sudden and devastating, saying the community was caught unprepared when the gunmen invaded at daybreak.

Narrating what happened, he said, “Yesterday morning, around 5:00 a.m, in the morning, then Fulani herdsmen came to the community and killed 8 people. We didn’t have anything tk fight them.”

According to the youth leader, the attackers overwhelmed the community, leaving residents with no means of resisting the assault. He lamented that the victims lost their lives because villagers lacked the resources and security support needed to protect themselves during the attack.

Simeon said the incident has thrown the community into mourning, with families grieving the loss of loved ones while many residents now live in fear of another attack.
