Former Rivers State governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has opened up about how losing the APC presidential primary election to Bola Tinubu affected his faith in God.

Speaking during an interview from 19:41 on Arise TV, Amaechi said he did not cry after the defeat, but instead became deeply troubled about the condition of Nigeria and the suffering of its people. He explained that after losing the primary election, he started questioning whether God wanted Nigerians to continue facing hardship.

According to him, the situation affected his spiritual life and made him stop praying regularly with his spiritual director. Amaechi said his spiritual director later noticed his absence and asked why he had stopped joining him in prayer sessions.

The former governor said he then explained his frustration and doubts about why Nigerians were still suffering despite prayers and hopes for a better country. However, his spiritual director challenged him for questioning God and reminded him that no human being has the right to do so.

Amaechi said the encounter made him reflect deeply on himself and return to prayer. He added that he later went back on his knees to ask God for forgiveness.
