Nigerian Ambassador-Designate, Reno Omokri, has reacted strongly to reports of former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, exiting the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the move as a development that northern Nigeria should view with caution.
In a lengthy statement, Omokri argued that Obi’s political trajectory raises concerns about consistency and party stability, claiming that parties the former Anambra State governor had previously joined experienced internal crises during his time with them.
“Every party Peter Obi has been in has been relatively crisis-free until Peter joined that party. And as soon as he comes in, peace goes out of that party and strife comes in,” he said.
He further suggested that repeated exits from political platforms point to a pattern rather than coincidence, questioning Obi’s reliability in keeping political commitments.
“Once can be a mistake. Twice may be a coincidence. But after the third time, and then the fourth, it becomes a pattern. The parties are not the problem. Peter is the issue,” Omokri added.
The commentator also directed his remarks at northern Nigeria, urging the region to carefully assess its political choices ahead of the 2027 elections. According to him, it would be unwise for the region to rely on what he described as uncertain political promises.
He contrasted Obi with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as a “performing” leader eligible for only one more term in office, suggesting continuity may be a safer option.
Omokri further questioned Obi’s record in governance, particularly in areas such as education and agriculture, arguing that these sectors are critical to addressing challenges in northern Nigeria, including out-of-school children and insecurity.
He concluded by urging stakeholders in the region to make decisions based on what he described as rational evaluation of options, emphasizing the importance of national unity and strategic political alignment.
The remarks have sparked mixed reactions, with supporters and critics of both figures engaging in debates over leadership, credibility, and the future direction of Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the next election cycle…Read_More…
