A political group operating under the banner of the Obedient Movement has announced the disbandment of the former Obidient Movement structure associated with the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development was reported by Arise Television on Thursday, May 7, 2026, following a press briefing held in Abuja by leaders of the newly unveiled movement.

The organisation further announced that it had officially adopted a new identity under the name OBEDIENT Movement as part of efforts to distance itself from the former Labour Party presidential candidate and his loyalists.
According to the report, repeated calls, text messages, and WhatsApp messages sent to Peter Obi and Yunusa Tanko for reactions were not responded to as of the time of the broadcast.
Speaking during the press briefing in Abuja, the International Coordinator of the newly unveiled Obedient Movement, Barry Avotu Johnson, said the organisation had not endorsed any presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
Johnson also stated that the movement no longer maintains political ties with the Labour Party. According to him, the decision to rebrand became necessary because the original principles and objectives that shaped the movement during the 2023 elections were no longer reflected in the current structure controlled by individuals who assumed leadership after the polls.
He said the organisation believed the founding ideals of the movement had deviated from its original purpose following the conclusion of the last presidential election…Read_Moreā¦
